Just wondering exactly how much salt per day is acceptable for an 8-month old, and how to calculate the "salt" content if the label only has the sodium amount? Thanks

Would cheese be considered too salty at this age? (I was surprised to see how much salt is in there!)

what I did was not to add any salt and look at the food they eat over a week. Rather than a day. Children can be picky one day but eat loads the next. salt is mostly found in processed food so it you give him fish finger chips and beans one day I didn't give any thing else like sausages, pizza ready meal for a week. cheese should be ok if they are not eating it all the time. Weaning advice is always changing I was a nanny before I had kid all you can do he read all you can and use your judgement and do what you think is best for your child. How know they may be telling all mums do do that in the future

Times sodium content by 4 (I think) to get amount of salt. (Please can someone else confirm this, because I am not sure)

Cheese is OK (good source of calcium) but don't give it every day, and try to avoid other salty foods over the course of that day. Make sure it is full fat cheese as well (which it should be anyway unless it specifically says "low fat" on the packet)

An 8 month old can have 1 gram of salt per day. HTH
