DD has just turned 6 months and I thought she was ready to try solids, she's really keen on watching us when we are eating and wants to hold a spoon etc etc, so I thought i'd introduce solids... it just hasn't gone well so far, the first time she gagged and then threw up everywhere, I've been doing it for a week now and she just doesn't like it, she'll put a tiny bit in her mouth and then just let it dribble out or she'll gag and spit it out, do I continue or stop and wait a couple of weeks? I started DS when he was 6 months and he just wolfed down anything I gave him and loved it from the word go (things have changed now he is 2 though and has become v fussy!!) I'm getting stressed about her not taking to it so any advice please!

Are you doing purees or mix of puree and finger food? My DD was a fussy little monster but much preferred feeding herself than eating any purees at all. Is this worth a go?

Also, I found it easier during fussy patches to buy puree so not watching the hours of patient coring and boiling going down the drain.

She may not be ready. Signs of being ready aren't watching you eating (they watch you do everything, drive, use knives etc, doesn't mean they're ready to do the same things) and they like to mimic you.

Can she sit up unsupported?

Has she lost the tongue thrust reflex?

Good head control?

Pincer grasp?

I'd leave it a couple of weeks and start again. DD wasn't ready at 26 weeks either. Started again a couple of weeks later and fine. She's 2.9 now and a very good eater, in fact apart from tomatoes she'll eat anything.
