BLW and protein

Hi everyone,

I am trying to get more protein into my baby (the HV said it will help her sleep better! fingers crossed!). She is 7 months old and we are doing BLW. Sometimes I give her pieces of beef or chicken from a casserole and she basically sucks on them but do any of you have a better idea of how to get protein in to her? It seems that meat pieces are too difficult/tough for her to eat. Would mince be better? Some sort of daal?

Thanks!

I wouldn't worry too much about it as she will be getting protein from dairy products and even broccoli. Let her suck on pieces of meat by all means she will be getting all the goodness from the juice anyway. Try mince if she can manage to pick it up with her fingers but I really wouldn't worry too much about it.

cheese, salmon, thinly sliced chiclen

but realy if I were you I would ignore your hv and just allow your baby to learn about food

she is still little and should be getting almost all of her calries from milk just now

Thanks everyone : ) I will stop worrying.

However, if you do want some more ideas: hummus or fish pate (mix salmon or tuna with cream cheese) on toast/rice cake, or make your own hummus/pate type thing with other pulses: butter beans and cream cheese with lemon juice and garlic for instance.

Lentils! Blitz them up with some veg/apricots and use toast finger dippers for her -guarantee she'll love sucking the lentils off..

Don't forget about eggs too - hard boiled (sliced or mashed on toast with some butter) or scrambled, or you could do eggy bread fingers.

My HV said the same thing, and while I know that in fact DS gets lots of protein from the dairy products he gets - philly, babybel, yoghurt, milk - I've also started giving him fish fingers and ommelette. A one-egg ommlette (how do you spell that?!) cut into strips goes down well.

Hey thanks everyone again for the tips. I have been giving her hard boiled eggs but into slices and OMG she absolutely LOVES them. Will try the omelette next.

Do you make the fish fingers yourself herbaceous? How do you do that?
