Information for my Mum (and me, I suppose)

I made a thread a while ago about weaning and baby rice, etc.

But, can anyone give some information that I can show my Mum about BLW, the importance of continuing to breastfeed just as much through weaning, and why cows milk shouldn't be given before a year old.

I feel that if I can show her this thread with lots of good MN advice then it will make more sense than me blithering on without enough knowledge.

DD is having baby rice at the moment, but not very often, but she really seems to enjoy it. Have tried with a few other things but she just shivers. Have discovered that she will happily suck/gum on an apple if offered to her! She's also passed the banana challenge, but tends to just spit most of it out/mush it through her fingers!

TIA!

There is a book called BabyLedWeaning by Gill Rapley, it is perfect at explaining what BLW is all about and the importance of milk (bf or formula) until at least 1.

Yes the book Baby Led Weaning is excellent - get a copy and lend it to your mum. I found it pretty easy going and finished it in a couple of days - I am a fast reader, but not so much since DS was born, I got through it quicker than other books is what I am meaning.

Apples BTW - be careful if she has teeth as if you are giving chunks, they can break off quite big bits and it can be a choking risk. Either give her a whole (peeled) apple (so there are no sharp corners) or a very thin sliver of it (this doesn't have to be peeled) or steam/boil it for a few minutes to soften it.
