How do you recognise a allergy/intolerance to food?????

DD has been eating food for the last month. We are doing BLW which she loves and seems to work very well for us. However today I have giving her french omellete and a red patch appeared by the side of her mouth.

It is the second time I gave her omellete. The first time she didn't seem very interested. She played with it and sucked it a bit but that was all. Today she has eating a little bit and this has appeared. She was also eating cherry tomatoes. I am sure the red patch has not appeared because of the cherry tomatoes as she has eatten them plenty of time before and nothing has happened, she loves them.

I am a bit unsure of how to recognise an intolerance to food and was wondering if someone could advise me on this.

BTW she is 7 months old. Hope someone will be able to advise me on the matter. For the time being I will stop giving her eggs for a while. Thank you in advance

ds1 had egg and milk allergies. It was really trial and error to see what he was allergic to and thankfully he never had a really serious reaction. There seems to be mixed opinion on whether scratch allergy testing or a blood test is reliable on small children and our paediatrician did not think it was worth it.

I would keep her off eggs until she is a year old and try again then. I would also avoid nuts until a year. I think this is also a subject of divided opinion; some advise not introducing egg and nuts until a year others don't. There is currently a big study going on in London about nuts.

For us the warning signs were red eyebrows, watery runny nose, distress and patchy face. We carried Piriton syrup in our changing bag just in case; you might want to get advice form your GP about this.

My DS1 was intolerant to tomatoes until he was about 1 - red patchy face & hands where it had touched the skin but no other problems & happy to eat it a long as I cleaned him up quickly afterwards AND egg but with egg he would projectile vomit for about 12 hours after eating so we stopped giving it to him for a few months, same thing happened but 3 or 4 months later he was fine & now age 4 eats anything & everything!

My LO had exactly the same thing happen after he ate eggs for the second time. I have steered clear for several months but as he is now 11mo I am wondering what to do. I tried putting a little bit on his leg to see if there was a reaction but none.

Think i will get some piriton and then maybe try again or go see our GP

Good luck!
