BLW at 24 weeks

Probably going to start not stopping DD grabbing food off my plate next week when she will be 24 weeks. Is there anything 'normal' she can't have? (I know about nuts, honey, shellfish, salt&sugar). Or is it important that I wait until 26 weeks to allow her anything other than fruit and vegetables? Thinking particularly about pasta and bread.
FWIW she is sitting up unaided for about 10 mins at a time, grabbing food, chewing everything, I wouldn't put food in her hand or mouth but at the moment I have to wrestle it away from her

bump - or maybe I need to stop being so lazy and do some research!

She is getting so grown up! Where did the baby go?

Dd weaned herself behind my back at 25 weeks on melon, I couldn't see the point in stopping her getting anything at just a few days short, pretty sure she had some toast before 26 weeks. I'll let you know if she came to any harm in 30 years or so

(7.30 Market Tav, can we pick SLF up on the way? What time?)

iirc, theoretically you're not meant to do dairy or wheat before 6m, but that's because pre-6m is technically 'weaning before they're ready' - with blw you know they're ready so anything goes.

have fun

StealthPolarBear · 26/02/2010 16:01

I will, thanks you two, looking forward to seeing her try to grip a piece of pasta

Stealth, My DD who is 5 1/2 months grabs a carrot stick from my plate at dinner last night. I didn't stop her and she spent 5 minutes happily sucking away at it, she loved it!!

I think the only things to remember is no wheat based foods or dairy until 6 months, and obviously nothing that has sugar or salt on

StealthPolarBear · 26/02/2010 18:25

That sounds like fun for her problem is i don't eat that healthily, ashamed to say i rarely have carrot sticks on my plate - maybe once a fortnight
So you think i should avoid wheat & dairy for a couple more weeks?
How's your DD? I think she's only a bit younger than mine isn't she (23wks)

Stealth its not that often I have them either Just having a very feeble attempt at losin my baby weight.

She is 23 weeks too. I would hold off the dairy and wheat for a few more months. I'm just going to stick with fruit and veg for a few weeks, don't want to over load her with too many different things at once.

StealthPolarBear · 26/02/2010 21:17

oh didn't realise they are the same age!
Think I'm just going to see how it goes - keep wrestling food out of her grip for another week and then make an attempt to start eating healthily!

hi stealth and memoo (we're on the sep 09 thread, aren't we?)
we've started BLW with DS who is 22 weeks now (I think? no idea any more. 5 months yesterday anyway!), because he just seems ready. We've just been giving him fruit and veg for now (and a few bits of bread he's nicked from our plates!). And no structure to it - just when he's awake and happy at a meal time, he gets some fruit to play with. waiting until 26 weeks for dairy/wheat etc etc.
it's all too complicated, waaah! btw, avocado went down incredibly well (incredibly middle class emoticon), he just mushed it up with his fingers and sucked it off them - very cute! but the poo. oh, the poo

memoo · 28/02/2010 20:16

We haven't had much stucture to it either arolf. I was eating a banana earlier with DD on my knee and she just threw herself forward, mouth wide open and began sucking the top of it! she absoulutly loved it! BLW is going to be fun!
