feeling anxious about weaning 26 week old

DD2 is 6 mths nows and we have tried a little puree and the odd bit of finger food over last couple of weeks. No really gusto for the food IFYSWIM and i already feel demolarised when i hear of other baies wolfing it down

the thing is my first daughter didn't feed well and i had running battles at meal times for almost 2 years and now have a fear of weaning. where do i start, how do i stop this becoming a battle. How long is it normal till they consume enough to reduce milk feeds

DD1 is just getting over a viral infection and her milk intake is down by a 1/3, should i focus on building that back up before i attempt weaning or just start?

she is only taking 20ish oz a day as apposed to her normal 30 oz (which i hadn't thought wasn't enough anyway??)

any advice welcome

thanks

If she's had a tummy infection then probably worth leaving solids for a few days til she's back to her old self. But I wouldn't worry about exact quantity of milk she is taking. It doesn't matter if it's a bit less than normal, or even if its less than official guidelines (if you were bfing then you would just feed baby til she wanted to stop and not worry about quantity, so doesn't really make sense to get hung up about it when bottle feeding.)

Try solids again in a few days. Even if she doesn't wolf it down, at least she'll learn to take food off a spoon so will be all ready to go when she does get hungry

thanks i guess you're right, when she was breast fed it was just 5 mins and only on one side and she always put on weight. now i have switched to the bottle i am obssessed with how much in accordance with the guidelines. also it always seems that 'other' babies are drinking the amount as per guidance and mine isn't ...i will lay off solids for a while too.

You could also try BLW as I've found it makes me much less stressed about how much DS is eating (although I still have my moments!) and lots of the posts on here are people saying it's a good way to avoid battles like you say you had with your first daughter. My son refused to take anything from a spoon and I was really relieved when I started doing BLW and it's whole 'they'll learn to eat in their own timescale and there's no need to push it' ethos.
