hello, i have just started blw and have been giving ds tap water in a doidy cup, which he seems really keen on. in fact possibly a bit too keen because he gulps it down like he's in the sahara (although admittedly a lot goes down his front). should i limit his intake in case it fills him up and putting him off his breastmilk or should he have as much as he wants?

Give water towards the end of the meal as, yes, it can take the edge off their hunger...

I let my DS have about half of his food and then offer water. For the rest of the meal I continue to offer water between mouthfuls.

You can offer water throughout the day but hold back for about an hour before milk feeds/solid meals.

Yes similar to camflower I only offer water with meals not at other times, otherwise they can cut down on BM what seems like too much

Having said that if he's not actually dropped any feeds then I wouldn't worry about it IYSWIM. Is great he can handle a doidy cup at his age (guessing he's just over 6 months!).

Mine is 7.5 months and foxed by her tommee tippee!

Brings back happy memories of a DD swigging water like an attendee at a Munich Oktoberfest from an Avent cup with handles. She looked so chuffed that she could do it and for a while she did drink rather a lot of water with meals (can't remember how long it went on for) but I didn't offer water otherwise while she was gulping it down and she carried on bf for ages. I think they can get a buzz from being able to do something for themselves.
