did the one thing i said id never do today...while doing the food shopping dd started to whinge so i went to the baby food section and picked a packet of (organix) weaning biscuits things from the shelf and gave her one, (paid for the packet later of course) she loved it and as she is just moving on to more lumpy foods i was delighted. but does anyone know who to make these sort of things as the packet cost me 77p for 12 tiny biscuits. i must admit i had one and they were yummie, but im sure they cost pennies to make really....funny how everything for a baby costs 10 times more!!!!!

I used to make melba toasts and rusky things when my babies were small. Can't lay my hands on recipes now but you will probably find someone like Annabel Karmel has a recipe in one of her books on her website for a biscuity thing for babies.

Hi, i have a recipe for digestive-type biscuits which my 9 month old loves (i do too!)- don't have it to hand but i'll be back on later and post it then if you're interested.

I'd love that recipe too Polly. Here is one I have used:

4 oz baby rice
4 oz SR flour
8 oz apple or grape juice.

Mix it all up. Roll out and cut into shapes, or roll into sausages. Bake on Gas 6 for about 20 mins.

I have also added oats, raisins, grated apple and cinnamon, and done a savouray version with stock from a baby stock cube and added cheese.

oo that one sounds like a perfect recipe - really simple , i'll give that one a go. Here's mine, it makes about 30 mini biscuits, they're not too sweet, sort of half way between a digestive and an oatcake. I use all wholemeal flour as i think they turn out better but I'm careful about how much fibre my little one is getting.

100g wholemeal flour (replace all or part with white flour if preferred, to cut down on fibre)
100g unsalted butter
100g oatmeal
25g soft brown sugar
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp milk

Rub the flour and butter together till it resembles bread crumbs. Add the rest of the ingredients and bring together with your hands to form the dough. Dust the work top and a rolling pin with flour and roll dough to about 4mm thickness. Use a small cutter (about 5cm diameter) to cut your biscuits and place on a greased baking sheet. The dough is brittle but can be pushed back together if it breaks. Bake in a preheated oven 180C/gas mark 4 for 10 minutes. Use a lower heat for a fan oven, I set mine to 170C.
