DD2 is 24 weeks and been on 5oz formula every 3 hrs for the last couple of weeks. She was EBF till then. I now have started a few teaspoons of baby rice yesterday and today in the evening. Not wanting to try BLW unless she rejects spoon feeding.

So how much baby rice per day (in weaning spoonfuls) and what next and when. She isn't a big milk drinker so I don't want to cut down on that too soon. But when is the 20oz per day guideline applicable?

So far she has kind of just sucked the spoon and not really eaten much but I think this is ok??

Any advice welcome.

Hi forevermore - the best advice I was given when I was weaning was "food for fun until they're one!"

Just remember at this stage it is about gradually introducing them to different foods and different ways to eat them.

I started by offering baby rice mid morning and mid afternoon. Then went to fruit or veg purees. I still gave the same amount of milk throughout the day.

Then I started giving proper breakfast, lunch and dinner (pureed, then lumpy etc) then I started cutting down the daytime milk. He would have milk in the morning, late afternoon and then before bed. He soon cut out the late afternoon one and just had two bottles, but I always gave water or baby juice throughout the day.

I remember being all worried about weaning - just when you get the hang of the milk feeds it all changes. But soon enough, your baby will let you know how much they want and when they want it!

Judt relax and go with your instincts.

You're right. Just getting her to take bottles and now it's onto the next thing
