Do I need to meet with my Health Visitor to discuss weaning?

To put it bluntly, my Health Visitor is worse than useless (sorry fellow Health Visitors out there.)

Once baby had regained birth weight and we had been through the obligatory visits, I have greatly enjoyed not seeing her. However at baby's last weigh in (sounds like a slimming class, doesn't it?!!!) she arranged to come round again to talk about weaning, which won't happen until about 8 weeks time (the weaning, that is, not the visit!)

So, in getting to the point, would it be mannerly to keep this appointment or should I cancel and read up as much as possible on my own and take it from there? Or would this be FAR too rude???

Thanks.

cancel

DiamondHead · 03/02/2010 18:17

Just cancel.

Eightbunnies · 03/02/2010 18:18

How old is your baby?

maldivemoment · 03/02/2010 18:40

Baby is 4 months. Thanks for replies so far.

Out of interest, would I have to give a reason for canceling?
I'm sure I 'll be met with "...well, let's arrange another time then..."

aaargh!

Do health visitors actually visit YOU where you live? We've never been visited - have to go and hang around in the Dr surgery. Couldn't understand why they're called health visitors!

We have had different HV coming to us, a bit difficult to know them as everytime it is a different one. However the last one who came to talk about weaning was very nice and gave me enough information about weaning. However when asked about BLW she told me that she couldn't give me any information because she has not been trained on this subject .

TBH the information she gave us you could have found it any where so by the end of the visit we didn't really learnt anything except that she was the nicest HV we have seen since DD was born (6 motnhs now).

I think you sould do what best suits you. If you do not want to see your HV just tell her that you are busy and you don't have time. Or you could see her and just ignore whatever she tells you.

Good luck anyway

If you don't want her to come round, why not just say that you're happy that you have all the information you need and have been reading the government guidance for yourself.

They mainly do it to try and catch the people who wean v early and give them information, that and the people who puree a McDonalds...

Belinda - yes. We're assigned a Health Visitor (Scotland) and unfortunately it seems we have drawn the short straw. If I hear one more person tell me "...oh, a good Health Visitor is worth their weight in gold..." I'll bloody scream!

Away to google 'how to puree a McDonalds!!!!'

Thanks all.
