I got two plastic pelican bibs for dd, they are only from Tesco value range but they are great. I think that if you are going to do purees then you need soft bibs but with blw I found it essential to have one that can catch at least some of what misses the mouth!

MoChan · 03/02/2010 13:50

I know this is potentially a completely useless opinion, but the best bibs I've ever I got from E Leclerc in France, a make called Mots D'Enfants. They are great because they are LONG, and when you put them on a small baby, they cover the legs as well as the chest. Brilliant.

Tesco's cover-all ones have been good too (you know, the ones with the arm coverage as well). Those ones with the catching bit never worked for us.

BornToFolk · 03/02/2010 13:53

Boots do some good ones that are soft at the top but have a rigid plastic bit that poppers on to the bottom to catch spills.

DS would never, ever wear the ones with sleeves.

CMOTdibbler · 03/02/2010 16:50

Silly Billyz are fab - they don't stain, and can be tumble dried. Mine looked as good when I passed them on as they did new

AuroraB · 03/02/2010 19:26

john lewis do good long sleeved ones, towelling with plastic backing. nice and long £8 i think for 2

MrsBadger · 03/02/2010 19:38

another vote for sillybillyz - pricey compared to some but the ones I bpought dd at 12m still fit at 2.6 and look like new.

tassisssss · 03/02/2010 19:40

actually mothercare's quite good for bibs!

TheWicketKeeperIsDown · 03/02/2010 21:17

And another vote for sillybillyz. I much prefer them to the waterproof ones with sleeves I got from Ikea - because Sillybillyz have a fleece front, stuff doesn't just slide off the way it does with others. As MrsBadger said, they're not cheap but I really think they're worth it as they're such good quality and wash and tumble dry really well.

BertieBotts · 03/02/2010 21:27

I like the ones which are a rectangle with a hole cut out - nice and big and will last a while. (Though I got on fine with standard newborn/weaning sized bibs for months, and these are cheaper. Watch out for Boots bibs as they shrink in a normal wash - 6 month size are now the same size as newborn!) I just rolled sleeves up to minimise staining. If food does get on clothes, leave them out to dry outside (even in the rain, snow or overnight) as the fresh air and sunlight bleach them away. I have been doing this in the rain and just putting the items through a rinse & spin cycle when I bring them in.

I got several long sleeved terry towelling with plastic back Matalan ones which have been great and cheap enough to buy quite a few to save on too frequent washing.
They are long enough to fold onto their lap when sitting in high chair to catch fallout.

They have different designs in store, if you (like me) are adverse to the 'mischievous monster' slogans emblazoned all over the one I've linked to.

DS (19 months) has graduated to pelican bibs as he manages to (mostly) keep his sleeves out of his dinner now.

greensnail · 03/02/2010 21:36

Our favourite is the bibetta. Its pricey but has been the only bib that DD can't take off and covers everything perfectly.

Galena · 05/02/2010 20:22

We have the Brother Max ones which are soft on top with a poppered pelican. The only thing I would say is that they aren't terribly big - DD is very small so they're fine for her. The soft bit has a waterproof back too.
