BLW - fish and prawns

DH is a fishatarian and so we eat an awful lot of fish and prawns.

There are no allergies in the family (and I'd like it to stay that way!)

How soon do you think I should introduce fish and seafood after weaning?

I know about the oily fish / swordfish / marlin thing - it's more fish pie and prawn curries / risotto in our house anyway...

they can have cooked seafood, fish, etc from 6 months so it depends on yourself really as to how soon you introduce it

DD had fish almost from weaning (27 weeks in her case). Fish pies and salmon and fishcakes etc.

Prawns are not food. They are evil, pesky, nasty little fecks.

BLW DS was a dab hand at fish
fingers at about 8 months.

i introduced fish pretty quickly, certainly by 7mo. seafood took a bit longer but that's only because DH hates it (just about tolerates fish) so i rarely eat it at home, but DS (21mo) now likes calamari and prawns, although yet to crack mussels and scallops. i've found that calamari rings are super BLW food as so easy to hold onto one bit while chomping on the other, and great if you give them a dip alongside like mayo or ketchup

Fish is a great BLW food, partic when they have few teeth, as it is much softer than meat so easier to chew and swallow.

i think with seafood that you might need to make sure it is properly warmed through, e.g. in a curry or pie, rather than served cold while they're little, but i may just be scaremongering as it feels like only a vague bit of knowledge rather than something i know for certain!

Yes I agree with you Meg re the prawns being cooked through. Great tip on calamari too.

Thanks all. DD five and a half months so gearing up mentally iyswim...

Fish tended to fall apart a bit to easy. Our wee boy loved squid rings from 8 months. Gave him mussels a while ago and he couldnt get enough. Seas food just seems like a great healthy thing to include in their diet. We are trying to introduce it more often.
