BLW and cutlery

DS has just turned 1 and has been happily BLW'ing since 6 months. he eats like a horse so no problems there... just in my naive imaginings he was going to be politely eating with a spoon and fork by his 1st birthday. I've always given him cutlery at mealtimes and he definitely knows what its for but he always chooses to use his hands (presumably because he can get more to his mouth that way). When did your BLW'ed LO's 'get' cutlery? I'm obviously just happy letting him get on with it in his own time but just wondering what others experiences with this are (and also friends DD is a lovely tidy eater and only couple of months older... might be a boy thing!)

My DS is 22mo and still uses his hands, partic if starving or tired, as it is much easier for him than cutlery.

He started eating soup with a spoon surprisingly neatly at 13mo so 'got' cutlery pretty early, although he still prefers to eat soup by dunking with bread even now

I have noticed he has been starting meals with cutlery in the last few months and then switching when tired or bored, rather than defaulting to his hands, so I'm hoping by 2 he'll be largely eating with cutlery

My BLW DS grabbed the spoon out of my hands when I was eating cereal and used it to feed himself when he was about 15 months. That was a month ago and he is pretty good at feeding himself soup, yoghurt, cereal and custard.

DD is almost 12 mo and has been trying for last couple of weeks to take the spoon away from me. I refused as I didn't think she would know what to do with it and would just make a lot of mess, but two days sgo she wrestled it away and started eating- now she refuses to let me feed her.
She gets maybe 60% in her mouth, the rest goes on the floor.

thanks! will try and be patient and avoid any posh dining venues for a while longer! As long as he's enjoying his food i dont care how he eats it...
