BLW and carpet

Help! I'm trying to do BLW (which DH is a little sceptical about, but willing to humour me) with DS, who is 6 months, but am struggling to manage it practically. Our kitchen is tiny, so we feed him with a Tripp Trapp highchair (which doesn't have a tray) at the table in the dining room, which has a carpet. DS has got very good at throwing food, which is not great, but manageable when he has toast, a bit more of an issue with petit filous. I really want to start being more adventurous with sauces or other things which might stain, but don't know how to limit the damage to the carpet! We're also trying to sell our house in the next few months, so a stained carpet would be a problem. We do have a plastic mat under the high chair, but it just isn't big enough. I'm a bit worried that (given DS isn't really eating anything yet, just lots of playing) DH may decide to stop humouring me and start talking about a return to less-messy purees...

We used a (camping) ground mat.

We use a 2m length of oilcloth got cheap in the sale section from here

norfolk textiles

Was cheap as chips and immediately after the meal I can wipe down any bits, crumbs etc, and every night I give it a proper going over with antibac spray.

We use a big fleece blanket which goes straight into washing machine as necessary.

Shower curtain all the way. We have 3 cheapo (but machine washable ones) and use one each day - straight into the washing machine at the end of the day. I wouldn't be without it.

Babies who aren't blw sitll make plenty of mess, you don't spoonfeed them for life! You could point out to your dh that even if you went back to purees for a bit you'd still need to be offering finger foods alongside now you're at six months, not to mention giving the baby a spoon to play with themselves, so you'll still have food all over the place. The messy stage goes on for at least a couple of years, sadly for carpets!

Thanks - off on a search for something like the above at the weekend. DH is less panicked since we've worked out that DS likes petit filous from a spoon (in my hand, but driven by his!) more than from his fingers, which makes it harder for him to fling the pot across the floor!

Can you not just get a tray for the highchair and feed him in the kitchen? It's cheaper than a steam cleaner
