I introduced my 15 month old to food via baby led weaning where she fed herself with "normal" foods, not mashed just chopped up into chunks.
She will let me feed her cereal in the morning and yoghurt but she will not even entertain the idea of doing it herself- I give her her own spoon to try and help her to put food on it and into her mouth but she just wont do it herself (unless its yoghurt still in the pot)

No matter what I put on her plate she just rams it into her mouth using her hands- mash, casserole the lot.

Any suggestions to how I can get her to use cutlery please would be gratefully recieved.
Thanks

My 17 mo DD has been BLWed too and she eats exactly how you describe your DD to too!

Tonight we had chicken casserole, peas and roast potato. She sat at the table for literally 5 mins. She shoved it in her gob with her hands as quick as poss (ignoring the spoon and fork with bits of food on) then got down. On the other hand DS (3.5 years) sat for half an hour having to be nagged and bribed to eat.

She is starting to use her spoon and fork but only in the past couple of months. She has needed a lot of encouragement. I just wish my DS would eat as well as her so try my hardest to just let her get on with it. I'm sure when they are older they won't want to eat with their hands when everyone else is using cutlery.

Can you pass her the spoon as you are feeding yoghurt then take it back off her and refill?? Tell her what a clever girl she is etc, etc.

My DS was weaned onto purees and so was used to eating off a spoon to start with. Now he is also 15mths and refuses to eat anything off the spoon except his porridge in the morning! I did laugh when he insisted on eating his baked beans one bean at a time!

I think it's just a stage they go through - they want to explore the textures and feel of the food and have complete control over what they are doing. Just leave the spoon there so she can take it if she's interested and let her do what she wants.
