my dd is eating 3 good meals a day and has been weaned for about 6 weeks now. she is drinking a little less milk but not that much less. she was born on the 91st centile and has remained there, but ive not had her weighed for 4 weeks now. will she gradually cut down her milk intake by herself, at the moment i give her 6oz when she gets up at 6am, then she has breakfast at 7.30-8am, then 4oz at 10am, lunch at 12pm, 4oz at 2 and 4pm then dinner at 5pm and anything from 4-6oz at bed which is at 6pm. dd is 6 months old. is this milk intake ok or should i offer more milk but less often. and can i move her on to follow on milk yet, i was told she need to be taking 18-20oz but no more for follow on milk. sorry its so long winded x

I think they are supposed to be having a pint which is about what you say 18 oz ish. But that's probably based on a baby on the 50th centile? She should def be on follow on milk (the 6 months + varieties) although I am not really sure how they are different.

When they are eating 3 good meals then it's OK to switch one of the feeds to a different drink (like water) so have you tried doing that? Because she might be drinking because she is thirsty after her meals rather than because she is hungry IYSWIM.

My dd is almost 7 months and I'm still partially breastfeeding - and I can definitely feel that she is taking (and wanting) less but it is only just starting to happen now.

until they are one milk should be the main source of nutrition.
weaning, to start with, is simply to introduce flavours and textures to the baby, and they'll alter how much they eat and drink by themselves.

follow her lead, she sounds fine. my first was bottle fed by the time he was weaned and he was still having about 4 or 5 bottles a day when he was a year old! lol

there is really no need for follow-on milk, unless you particularly want to use it. it was designed by formula manufactuers to get around the ban on advertising infant formulas (claim it isn't for infants and voila!)
it contains more iron, which some children don't tolerate very well and can cause constipation.

a minimum of 20oz is recommended from 6 months to 1 year so it is fine if they take more than that. They will cut down their milk as their solids intake increases. At 6 months ds was still having 5 bottles with one still in the night.

thank you all for your help. i am just so scared she will put on too much weight. i was an overweight child and now an over weight adult so i dont want the same for her, i know i was over fed as a child!!!
she looks ok to me but then again she would lol.
i offer water in a feeding cup at breakfast, lunch and tea time but she hates it, but im not going to stop offering it. she can get to like it [hmn]
as long as shes getting enough but not too much im happy

It is a good idea to move to milk 6+. Breastmilk is also changing according to child's age so staying on the same milk might be not as beneficial to her. At this stage she should have around 240 ml a day.I don't know her diet but remember that cheese and joghurt also count. If she doesn't like water you might try fennel tea.Don't worry about her gaining extra weight at this stage, it will be fine. She has also growthspurts so you should take these into copnsiderationas well. Good luck
