Defeating the object of BLW or a good start?

Hi all,
DD is 6 months in a week and we've begun to offer her foods off our plates as shes a bit of a grabber anyway. At the moment she's pretty good at grabbing stuff and guiding it into her mouth so thats great. Slippy stuff she just gets cross with so fairly often I end up holding it for her and she sucks out the juices and very occassionally swallows a teeny bit. Am I ok to be doing this given that she does hold food herself and pop it into her mouth so she has the technique, but not the patience for slippy food? Or will am I totally defeating the object of blw and should maybe stick to foods she can and will hold, i.e less slippy stuff?
Am I just being a neurotic first time mum/blweaner and should just stick to what I'm doing?

Only a few days in and the control freakary is already rearing its head! On the bright side she does seem to be enjoying it and I'm keen to persevere in spite of my mothers constant 'helpful' remarks that BLW is stupid and I should just spoon feed her otherwise she'll starve

if you are happy doing this and she is happy, tehn go right ahead. it might not be 'pure' BLW, but it is doing the trick,no?

DD liked pasta pieces, cheese sticks, rice cakes, chunks of veg etc.. when she started

remember that milk is still the main source of nutrition and calories, whether spoon weaning or BLW, so as long as she is having her milk and tastes of food, then that's fine for this age

as she gets a bit older, and eats more solids, she will gradually drop her milk and get better at eating food

Could you try making the slippy stuff less slippy? I found that if I left the skin on things like pears DD managed much better. She would either just suck the flush off and leave the skin or take a big bite, churn it around in her mouth for awhile and then spit the skin out.

My MIL nearly had a fit when she saw me give DD pear this way

Holding slippery food to help her just makes sense - the key thing about BLW is that baby is leading the way ie grabbing your hand and shoving food into her mouth. They can do this with a loaded spoon too. You're just facilitating the process! My dd was great at feeding herself from the start (thumb sucker, so plenty of practice at getting things into her mouth) though my ds (non-thumb sucking 7 month old) needs me to hold things for him more. She sounds like she's doing great!

i left skins on (it is AMAZING, they spit out the skin while chomping) and i've also heard people say that they bought crinkle cutters.

the object of blw is only to get your child onto solid food without too much stress and inconvenience for either party, imo, so it sounds like things are going well. the control freakery will subside i am sure.

Thats brilliant. I gave her some courgette today on which I left the skins on.

I am more interested in the fact that she's getting these tastes and flavours and I'm not worried about her actually eating the food as she's still getting plenty of milk.

Thanks for the boost guys!
