Weaning foods - what to offer?

I've already started purees and now I'd like to start offering some finger foods, but on both counts I'm lacking inspiration. DS is 6 months and I know I should be able to give him a bit of whatever we're eating, but I have two questions:

  1. We mainly eat pasta/curries/stirfry - how much of this can he have? We don't really eat veg 'straight', so we're both at a bit of a loss to know what to do with it - does it all just get boiled?
  2. I love the idea of just passing over a little bit from our plate when we're eating, but DS is almost always asleep when we're eating. I have my breakfast during his 8:30 nap and my lunch during his 12noon nap and dinner at 7 after he's gone to bed (yes, you can set your watch by him!). Did anyone else have this?

Pasta is fine, you have to see whether he likes curry, although I don't think it should be too spicy. Stir-fry might be to oily, again depends how you prepare it.
Basically babies can have everything except honey, nuts and added salt ( and check packaging for salt content).
I also often prepare dinner for DD separately, as we tend to eat later,so she doesn't always eat what we do.
Unless I make soup or mash, she eats everything with her hands, so if we're eating roast chicken and French beans, I'll cut meat in little pieces and give it to her.

steamed veg is nice and easy. Brocoli or cauli florets, carrot batons.

pasta twirls, or even spaghetti

anything you like really as winny says except the salt seasoning, you can still add flavour.

good luck, tis alot of fun.

What time does your DS have breakfast and lunch?

Can you change your times so that you can eat with him, and therefore eat the same things?

Thanks guys, I might try some of those.

I tend to have cereals for breakfast - can he eat those? And bread - is granary okay? I feel like these answers should be obvious, but I'm just not sure.

Normal cereal is fine, obviously not coco pops and sugar coated ones! And not the fiber or added fiber ones. Also, watch the sugar.

If granary is what you eat then I think that's fine.
