7 month old eating a lot - can I give her too much?

I started weaning DD with puree a couple of weeks before she was 6 months so she's been at it 6 weeks or so. She is now having three meals, two breast feeds and one bottle of formula a day. She was on 4 milk feeds but dropped one herself. She dropped her dreamfeed too.

She eats sweet things easily- sweet potato, carrot, parsnip, apple, pear, and will also have lentils, weetabix, baby rice and sweeter ready made baby food. But she eats an awful lot. Today I think she's had three portions of over 200g each. This morning it was 1 and a half weetabix, about 50g of apple and 100g of formula. She clears her plate almost every time.

So should I be feeding her more? Or less? I don't want to restrict her but saw a scary programme about overweight 5 year old the other day. She's just starting to crawl too.

if she is enjoying healthy food without added salt or sugar then i can't see what the problem is. obseity is linked to high fat and sugar content food and little or no exercise which clearly isn't the case here. enjoy its great when you have a 'good' eater.

Hi Newkiwi, I would just carry on as you are. Sounds like your DD has a good healthy appetite and you are feeding her lots of good stuff. Without wanting to sound like a killjoy, my DD was the same when she first started (we are doing BLW) but has since slowed down quite a lot and had some periods when she's hardly eaten anything, possibly due to teething or possibly just the novelty of food wearing off. So you may find you have some times like that too - hopefully not, but just enjoy the enthusiasm for now!

Yes with my DS it was like feeding a baby dinosaur at first, he'd eat your hand off. He did slow down. However I know a 5-year-old who just astonishes me with how much food she puts away, and she's not fat. It must be that some kids have a faster metabolism and use it up. As long as it's healthy food, I wouldn't worry. It's also a good opportunity to get her trying as many different tastes as possible, in the hope of developing non-fussy tastes.

Lol Marine Iguana. DD bangs her fists if I'm not fast enough getting the food into her mouth!

Sounds like I shouldn't worry too much. Several of OH's family have weight issues and I'd been hoping she wouldn't inherit them. But she's not overweight so I guess I just have to feed her a good diet and hope for the best.

Thanks for the advice guys.
