BLW friendly high chairs

DD isn't due to start solids for a couple of months yet. But I'd quite like her to be able to join us at the table, even if she's only watching.

Are there any highchairs which a) work well for BLW and b) will do for a 4 month old? Or should I just accept she'll have to be in her bouncy chair looking at our legs for a bit longer?

Ikea do a great one, Antelop?, which is the right height for the table, and as long as your DD can sit with some support, she will be fine. Plus they only cost £10ish, a little bit more if you want the add on tray.

I spent £90 for a glam highchair for ds3, and ended up selling it and buying one of these.

Yep, Antilop all the way. We got it when my DD was less than 5 months, and she's a bit of a titch, but they also sell a plastic inflatable cushion (£4) which works really well if they're little. It's sooooo easy to clean - which is the main advantage for BLW! We like the fact that it can come right up to the table, but also that there is the option of the tray which we're using for the current very messy stage

It's also really light and the legs come off easily, so very easy to transport to grandparents etc.

Here endeth the lesson!

antilop or tripp trapp are the only two worth looking at, very much opposite ends of the price spectrum. i have the 'tilop.

John Lewis stock one which is about £70 that we have. It's wood and the tray flips back so that it can come right up to the table. It folds flat really easily, we cart it around all over the place with us.

Another vote for Antilop. I've never understood people who buy padded ones with masses of creases for the food to get stuck in.

Antilop it is then. I fancied a Tripp Trapp but this has put me off a bit...

If you like the idea of a Tripp Trapp then have you considered a svan Its like the Tripp Trapp, but I think more stable and you can have the tray on in the early days, then take it off and have them at the table later. Its easy to clean and the cushions can be chucked in the washing machine and dry quickly.

I agree the Antilop is a great chair and hugely practical, however we eat in the living room so wanted something a bit more attractive as its constantly on show.

anything that doesn't have padding, cushions, lots of nooks and crannies! Ideally, you want something that is just completely (moulded for comfort!) plastic or wooden.

I can't stress this enough...I am so fed up cleaning all the little crevices and the cushion (under the cushion, around the cushion, blah blah!) that it has actually made me quite resentful to feeding my son .

If you don't want to pay top dollar, you will find that the other end of the budget scale (those without fancy padding, etc) are actually fab for blw. Also, if you want her to join you at the table before you can eat, you might consider a reclining one, but then this is wasted once you start weaning as they need to be very upright...

I had a fancy all singing and dancing high chair for dd, never ever used it for ds was awful too many nooks and crannies to clean.

Still have our £10 Antilop sitting in the corner and it is fab sooo easy to clean.

Do get the inflatable cushion because the seat is huge on it ds (4 in April) and not tiny sits comfortably in it easily.

I love it and recommned to everyone.

I like the Antilop and have used ones in cafes etc, but I wanted a high chair that folded up as our kitchen is quite small. I think the one we used is called a Happy Snack or something by Chicco. Got it for about £40 from Kiddicare. My dd was very comfy in it (and some of her early BLW meals lasted the best part of an hour, so she needed to be!), it's got a massive tray with a lip so that things don't roll off and the tray can be whipped off very quickly (useful when she started chucking stuff when she was bored, I found). Not pretty, but it really worked for BLW for us.
