Any hard-to-resist recipes or jars for very reluctant feeder?

So DC4 just loves being breast fed and has no interest in food.

I have had this twice before with his sisters (both weaned at 6 months) whereas his brother (weaned at 4 months) wolfed everything down.

I've tried the good old carrot, pear, apple purees. Bought Ella Organics packets but still no joy.

He won't really open his mouth and if he does pulls spectacular faces at the horrors on the spoon. Banana makes him gag and eyes water for a few minutes!

He hates Calpol too - basically everything other than milk. As he was 10 lb 14 at birth, he's a big chap to feed solely on milk. One of his sisters didn't really eat until she was 11 months old - but she did like rice and Weetabix (also disliked) - and she has grown into quite a fussy eater.

So, can anyone recommend some 'can't resist' foods?

My DD has always been a fussy/reluctant feeder. I found she really liked the tins of baby food. You know the cheap ones, I think they are made by Heinz. She has continued to like the cheapest most horrible food ever since. Not sure why though!

mashed avocado?

I liked the plum baby pots when mine were little, quite expensive but they smell more like proper food than most of the jars and pots out there.

did you do homemade purees, they definately taste nicer than jar ones (sorry, not trying to make more work for you though!). Have you just done BLW and left him to get on with it?

How old is he? I assume he's not wasting away?

Milk should be their main source of nutrition until a year old. Have you tried just giving him finger foods to let him dictate the pace, he might be more adventurous left to his own devices. We found roast sweet potato and carrots were very acceptable, and steamed apples and avocado slices. Also rice cakes spread with cream cheese and a little bit of pesto. Pasto stirred through with cream cheese and pesto and frozen peas also a favourite. It's messy, but you might be surprised what goes down.

Don't stress though, babies rarely let themselves starve

pasta

Thank you all. He is only 6.5 months (so it's only been about 3 weeks) and is fine weightwise so I'm not anxious about him wasting away I just didn't want to go down the path of another fussy eater. I haven't had a fruit/Calpol rejecter before!

I did the homemade purees but I will try Plum and I'll give the finger foods a go. I tried BLW with one DD but she prefered being spoonfed so I didn't do that for long.

I'd forgotten about avocado (I'll blame it on the veg box - not many of those knocking around at this time of year!) and I'll give the roasted veg a go.

I'm not sure I can go down the Heinz route. The smell of burped up Heinz and milk (from DS1) still lurks!

Thanks again.

DD2 absolutely adores the Organix stage 1 fruity chicken and rice, will wolf down the whole pot.

I do like the smooth puree stage - so much easier to achieve than the stage 2 lumpy stage!!
