How much salt is OK for weaning?

I realise ideal answer is none. I don't add any salt/stock to food made specifically for DS (9 mths). However, I am keen to get him eating same as rest of family ASAP. e.g. this eve we had a risotto made with stock - would this be OK to offer him?

I'm no expert, but I would think that as long as no other salt was added, it would be fine. I don't add salt to anything at all and would certainly serve up what you mentioned to a 9 month old.

you can get low salt stock cubes in the supermarket and Boots which you could use in dishes that require stock.

go for low or no salt stock - homemade is the best way to control the salt content as bought stocks are really high in salt.

i would have given it to my DS at 9mo, but not as an every day thing at this age as stock can be a bit too salty and you do need to watch salt intake. we have pretty much always given DS everything that we have - nothing different for him. but what we do is use low salt stock (boots baby organic range, or kallo very low salt from supermarket), and just add extra salt to ours if we need it - better for him than his being too salty, and better for us as we probably actually have less salt this way. no extra hassle either as you do still all eat the same food, just slightly different ingredients to begin with.

i used to make my own stocks for risotto, either chicken or veg. veg is a particular doddle, really just an onion, celery, carrot, bit of garlic and a bayleaf and parsley if you have it. pretty much put it on about twenty mins before you start the risotto. plus, the rind of a parmesan tossed in while cooking gives great umami.

The recommended maximum is 1g a day for babies.
