I have a nearly one year old daughter, who was getting on quite well with weaning. She was have finger foods for lunch. But now she seems to have gone backwards, as she doesn't like to have any lumpy/chewy foods in her mouth!! She'll eat veggie purees and just about manages very soft pear, but thats it!

Is this a sign of teething? I have a 4 yr old boy who loves his food, and has always wolfed down anything I have given him - so this is very new to me!

Anybody else going backwards with weaning?

Yes, I'm in the same position as you and almost pulling my hair out. My daughter is one at the end of this month and has always been very difficult with food. She has a problem with the muscles in her tummy so weaning has always been very slow. However her eating was showing signs of improvement until over a week ago when she refused food all together apart from yoghurt. She had got a tooth coming through and an ear infection. She is now on the mend but is still refusing any food other than yoghurt or fruit puree. She spits out anything with lumps. I feel like i'm starting all over again!!! I'm worried that she's going to become a terribly fussy eater. I see all her friends the same age, shoving ham sandwiches in their mouths and eating chicken korma and wonder when my girl will ever get to that stage. It can often be quite stressful. Maybe it's a girl thing. x

Have found that DS (9 months) will only eat yoghurt when teething or ill. Otherwise he is not at all fussy - so surely it could be illness / discomfort or some such thing?

hey thanks both for your post.

have since found out that DD has had a waterworks infection which probably made her uncomfortable...but I must say that whilst she is eating more again now, she's still not happy with lumps/chunks/finger foods - they end up on the floor (which the dog thinks is fab!).

i'm trying not to get stressed about it, but when i see her peers eating so well it makes me feel very inadequate. but then she's only got 4 teeth so chewing is still pretty hard for her...

I don't know its so hard when they can't tell you things

I'm sure our little girls will pick up soon...keep me posted howw you get on or if you find any techniques that work?! x

After seven days of hunger strike she has finally eaten food this morning and is currently chomping on a biscuit. It's very difficult not to get stressed by their fussyness but you can't help it. As I make all of her food and spend hours doing it I do get a bit upset when she turns her nose up. Currently the holy grail would be to see her eat a ham sandwich, just like her friends but at the moment it feels a long way off. Chin up x
