Weaning going badly

Waited until 6 months cos I really wanted to bf exclusively. So we started a week ago, mainly cos I thought I should, not cos ds really needed/wanted it. But I was afraid the longer I left it the more difficult it would become.

So we started with some baby rice, which he hated, then some fruity baby rice, hated that too. Now we've tried pureed carrots and pears, which he refuses too. He just clamps his mouth shut and grizzles. He doesn't seem to dislike the pear (in that he doesn't dribble it all out his mouth, like with the other stuff!), but I still have to force a bit to get it in! And I don't feel like it's the right thing to do, to force him, just not sure how to go about it.

Any ideas??

Shameless thread theft here - but I have a post under the media section about weaning... I'm collating anecdotes for a piece I'm writing and would appreciate my lovely fellow mumsnetters' help! I think I put that I needed funny anecdotes - but it would be good to include some quotes from mums who have had/are having difficulty. I know that weaning can be an incredibly stressful time - I remember mashing up vast quantities of different tastes for DS only for him to spit them out. In fact, I think the more intricate the recipe the less likely he was to eat it. If it is any consolation to you all, he's now 5 and tucks in to Thai, Chinese, Indian and anything else he can get his hands on. Anyway, if you could take a look at the other post here I'd be really grateful xx
