Thank you kindly in advance

DS2 is 24weeks and (almost) exclusively bf for that time (formula a couple of times!).

Over the past week he has been SHOUTING to join in at mealtimes so I gave him a rice cake to suck on, which he loved, and he has had some mushed up fruit or veg (I'll probably go down the route of mixing mush with finger food as I did with first) which he also thoroughly enjoyed. He has had something once a day, and a rice cake most evenings.

He got a bit constipated, so we upped the water and haven't increased the number of solid 'meals' just yet.

But...he has started waking more during the night! He used to sleep 7.30 until between 3.30 and 5am, feed and go back to sleep. He is now waking at 1am and 4-5am.

So, if you have managed to get to the end of this...what's the next step? Argh...

(I did think that having written this down it may all become clear to me, but is still as clear as mud!)

AFAIK milk is more calorific than solids at this age so the food may be taking up milk room in his tummy so he wakes for food in the night. I don't know if you should change anything as I think a bit of solids at 24 weeks is ok but make sure that before you give him any solids give him his milk feed. HTH

PS - well done for EBF for 24 weeks - that's great!

See, that is my understanding too but I was starting to doubt myself when everyon else (including HV who is very good!) was suggesting more food.

Thanks - I'll try and make sure he is definitely taking his milk first and foremost - as ever, timing is a pain as he is getting his solids when we have our meals, which is usually in between feeds for him...
