dd is 6 months and i have just started her off on fruit and veg. I know in theory she could already be having foods containing gluten and dairy, but i want to do it gradually.
just wondering how long to give it before introducing these sorts of foods.
thanks

I did it straight away to be honest. He had pitta and toast fingers, no adverse reaction so far (couple of weeks in now).

after 6 months they're fine... maybe offer one at a time a few days apart though if you're worried

YOu can do it at 6 months but worth holding back if there's a history of allergies in family. DS4 has dairy intol and brotehr ahs gluten intol, so we will hold back ds4's gluten until he is 3.

we don't have any food allergies in the family.
I will perhaps give her another week on fruit and veg and then start with other things. She seems to be grasping it very quickly and enjoying it!

plantwoman we started weaning DS a week ago and today he had some cheddar cheese fingers and he loved it. They were a really good shape/texture to hold.

Chocorange - just wondering how you are finding your DS is getting on with the hand to mouth thing?
DD is not great to be honest.
I BLW DS2 who is now 2.5 years. He was physically much more capable than DD at 6 months, he was sitting unaided and had devloped his pincer grip.
DD's head still seems too heavy for her to sit up and she is able to grab things in her fist and direct them towards her mouth, but I am having to give her a bit of help actually getting anything in there, she gets very frustrated. I am wondering is BLW is the best choice for her?

plantwoman my DS is good at getting food from hand to mouth but he's not great at picking it up himself, despite trying, or getting the food out of his hand once he has chewed the top part off so I usually help him put it in his hand - by holding it out and move the food so a bit is sticking out of his fist after he's chewed the first lot IYSWIM?

TBH if DS liked being spoon fed I would do that too but he doesn't - its up to you but if your DD cannot feed herself and you think she wants/needs food then you could try a spoon, maybe help her hold it so she gets the hang of it?

HTH!
