how old to drink tea?

my 8 month old would happily drink tea every morning just like the rest of us if I let him. Is this a reasonable age to be drinking tea? He's not drinking it by the gallon as he's sipping it from a "grown up" cup.

How old were your children when they started drinking tea?

I dated a man (actually a complete knob would describe him better) and he insisted on forcing his 4yr old DD and 6yr old DS to have a cup of tea every morning they stayed with him. It was a battle he'd had with his ex-partner and it gave him some satisfaction that she could do nothing about it - the kids didn't even enjoy it fgs.

I tried explaining about the whole iron intake problem and wouldn't orange juice be better but he, quite aggressively, told me it was nothing to do with me and if he wanted his kids to drink tea then drink tea they would (and couldn't leave the table until they had).

Very short lived relationship and I still think of his poor children with pity (the tea drinking was just one small part of his control issues).

My DS 5 - will occassionally have a cup of warm milk and the tea bag from my cup used to make it the palest beige - this is tea to him !

DS has had the occasional cup of tea sinse he was about three. I wouldn't force it on him, but he likes some types, his favourites being redbush which is caffiene free, or Earl Grey.

peasandbeans 8 months is toooo young. If he wants tea just give him some herbal stuff or redbush or some warm milk.

DS1 has had a cup of very weak tea (about 10% tea, 90% milk and cold water, and usually decaff) from about 18mths. He loved it and I found it was a great way to get fluids into him (he wouldn't drink much water, and I didn't want to give him anything with sugar). DS2, 16mths, is only interested in water or breastmilk, so I'm led by that.

So shoot me .alp[o[.

DD2 (aged two) would happily sip tea from a cup if I let her. She would also happily sip Bacardi and coke or wine from my glass too. I try not to let her though.

How odd??

Fruit teas are very very bad for teeth btw. All that acid erodes the enamel.

Herb teas are fine.
There is an extra issue about drinking fruit teas as opposed to eating fruit though especially if it is in a bottle / sippy cup.
