re-heating frozen baby food

I've just started weaning my DD & just wanted to double-check about re-heating frozen food...

Whenever I re-heat any frozen food I always make sure it's steaming hot all the way through, but DH reckons that's unnecessary - is he right? (first time for everything! )

I ask, because I was wondering what to do with the frozen pots of vegetable mush I've lovingly prepared for DD when we're out & about... he reckons I could just let them defrost before giving them to her, whereas I thought I'd have to nuke them in the microwave first.

TIA

Hi, when i was weeing my son, i did both. I defrosted it and then heated up in microwave when at home but if i was going out, just gave it to him when it defrosted, either is fine.

Like em, we did both, but always nuked meat based stuff. So just took veg and dairy based stuff out and about unless it was cold slices meat in sandwiches (we did sandwiches from around 10 months I think). It's a great bonus if they'll take room temperature or even chilled stuff, gives you more flexibility to eat on the run if you have to. I also used to have an unopened jar of something in my change bag at all times in case we were caught short.

I always heated to piping hot and left it to cool especially if it was meat/dairy based. For out and about I took things you could give cold e.g. yoghurt, fruit pot, banana (either give in bits as finger food or mush with a fork while out). I have also heated to piping hot at home and then taken the food out with me - by the time it was time to feed ds it had cooled to eating temperature.

i do a bit of both but always think nuking it gets rid of alot of the vitamins or have i just made that up?
