I agree totally, stalightMckenzie..... and i also agree that in some cases there is an element of paent led stuff- so that, by definition, isn't BLW.

SO amybe i am just being nit picky as lockets says. But it does seem a tad strange to say "this is a page about baby lead weaning- in which we say that you can mix it up with purees"....because that ISN@T baby led. unless as you say, the purees are in a sarnie and the baby eats it like that.

And nw i think i am done.
Good night all.
Sorry!

d'you know in the same set of "info", they say that they have a load of almost veggie recipes

JackBauer · 21/04/2009 09:17

I didn't think you were getting aggro, I certainly wasn't!
It is just the same conversation I have with MIL whenever she sees me bring a spoon out 'Ooh I thought you did this BLW? But you don't. SO I must have been right all along...blah blah'

wtf is an almost veggie recipe? Is it with meat from animals that only eat veg?

GazelleH · 21/04/2009 09:44

Hey Ooopsagain, sorry if I can across as aggro. Didn't intend to offend.

I rememeber when I was weanng my now 2.5 year old and at the time I had never heard of BLW until he was 7 months. There wasn't much info out there at the time and I wasn't posting on forums back then.

When I did stumble on the info and buzz I was pleasantly surprised. My son was always a tad independant so for us from then on, to let him get on with it himself was the way forward. Got the usual objections from his Nan who insisted on spoonfeeding him when I worked .

I suppose I would consider that he was weaned in a mixed way. I'm just glad the the cnventional parenting sites are catching on that BLW isn't a crackpot idea and that many many mums and babies have great success with it .

I've said what Lockets has said in first post on here (mainly when talking bout kids on special diets, as sometimes if yure out purees are labelled for allergies and easiest). I stand by it.

Ideally DS4 would have sandwiches, spoon feed himself but he can't have bread and his coordination simply isnt up to it (maybe his eyesigt actually, family trait) and at a year he needs the spoonable stuff such as calcium fortified Df yoghurts as well as his special diet finger foods.

Works for us anyhow and anything that stops the puree of mush until school brigade is a winner.

Peachy · 21/04/2009 09:58

But almost veggie- PMSL

gigglewitch · 21/04/2009 21:52

JB - that must be it. Made from meat of vegetarian animals. Why didn't I think of that?

MiniMarmite · 21/04/2009 23:32

Hello, (just to clarify before I start because it's late and I'm tired) I'm not looking for a fight either , just interested in this (!)...

My baby has squashed/mushed/pureed food on a spoon that I give to him when he opens his mouth as well as finger foods that he picks up himself.

I've never considered myself a BLW but more of a 'conventional' weaner (for want of a better term)...maybe I need to read more about it.

Peachy · 22/04/2009 10:58

TBH ANyway I think > that the most important part of BLW is the weaning readiness, I think thats incredibly so if you can manage it ( we didnt on paed advice but that was a shame and purely linked to medical reasons)

Giving finger foods also so, co-ordinatiojn and learning involved is massive.

The rest, whether its 100% finger feding or inolves purees is personal choice I think

I do think BLW has contributed massively though, and whilst many of us older mums of several may well ahve done similar with finger foods etc before, I know there are many mums who simply didnt and have heard people in the supermarkets discussing the fact that you can allow a baby to self feed. Wow, fab.

What Iloathe 9as a random aside) is those dummy like baby feeders ou put banana in. Almost atenner and the blurb goes on about reducing the risk of choking
