I have always made DS's food from what we eat and blended it.

But Im going back to work next week and want to buy the odd jar, just incase. For ease really cos I know next week will be just crazy until I get back into the swing of things.

Also going away on holiday in a few weeks and would like to take some jars with me then too.

Can anyone recommend a brand that their baby likes but is also baby friendly.

Plum or Baby Organix. They only have real food in and don't have use by dates in the next millenium. They are more pricy but they are as close to home made as you can buy. I have the for emergencies and dd loves them.

Hmm good spelling there. I really should have gone to bed hours ago!!!

cheekster · 19/04/2009 00:04

Thanks Marthasmama, will put those in my basket now

Just doing online shopping now

good plan but in the same position, my dc wouldn't flippin well eat anything out of a jar - the buggers
Eventually got away with the Hipp organic fruity ones and the Heinz pots (yes the ridiculously expensive ones)

Good luck (and hide the jars)

My DS likes Hipp jars and Organix pots. Both taste like real food, and I'd be happy to eat it too.
In fact, Ds had Caribean Chicken, followed by Apple, apricot & strawberry puree. I think I ate more than he did!!

simpson · 19/04/2009 00:10

Another one who got the plum/organix ones...

Also when you make your LOs food, you can reuse the plastic tubs to bung in the freezer

Although DD is rather partial to the hipp organic banana rice pudding.

Also have you tried the fruitapura fruit pots? They are quite good....

gigglewitch · 19/04/2009 00:12

yes simpson - the pots are fab too - dd loves them - she's had them since 8mo and she's now 3 (does not dare to calculate how many she has eaten) She can't have dairy products so they are ideal as they're all fruit

simpson · 19/04/2009 00:13

forgot to mention ella's kitchen pouches they are pretty good too....

simpson · 19/04/2009 00:15

gigglewitch - my DD can't have dairy either

or soya

Tis very hard to know what to give for puddings...

Ds (3) is fine eating anything and he still likes the fruit pots too. LOL at counting how many they have devoured!!

Thanks a lot ladies

My 'odd' jar has now turned into 15 jars.

No one has mentioned the cow and gate jars, and they seem to be the main variety on tescos website.

Do I steer clear of these?

Anyone tried them?

poor you simpson - avoiding dairy is quite do-able, but dodging soya as well sounds like you have your work cut out. TBH I just made enormous batches of fruit or veg purees and had about ten ice cube trays in the freezer at all times - The freezer habit has continued tbh, it's much easier having 'emergency' rations in the freezer for occasions when daddy's doing the cooking

simpson · 19/04/2009 00:24

Have tried a couple of the pudding jars (cow & gate ones) and they seemed a bit runny so kept slopping off spoon etc.

But never tried savoury ones TBH. No reason for not trying them though...

gigglewitch · 19/04/2009 00:25

Didn't do cow and gate on the grounds that they have dairy products in most of em - sorry! If at least two of us who have posted have dc with intolerances/allergies then you're basically looking at pots/jars with the absolute minimum number of ingredients in

simpson · 19/04/2009 00:29

Gigglewitch - DD is now 14mths and unfortunately will not let me feed her from spoon so pureeing is out

Wants chunks of food iyswim.

Have just treated myself (if you can call it that!!) to a slow cooker so will use that.

Also we have just discovered jelly

simpson · 19/04/2009 00:31

When DS was tiny (now 3) his absolute fav jar was stawberries & cream cow & gate jar.

He also liked the fruit salad one too.

But Gigglewitch is right they have a lot of dairy in them so haven't really tried them with DD.

gigglewitch · 19/04/2009 00:33

yep - slow cooker is a must!! The stuff we freeze nowadays is dairy free versions of lasagne, cottage pie, fish pie, chicken curry, that sort of thing. So if we want to dig out something for the occasional meal for the small folk when we are not having a family meal, it's still proper food iyswim.

chandellina · 20/04/2009 17:37

Tesco does HIPP - DS likes them and I think they taste decent. Boots organic ones are pretty good too.
