Can't remember much about weaning my DS 4 years ago.
I weaned him fairly early for various reasons (wont go into now, as not trying to start up a debate!), but am in no hurry to wean my DD. She is now 22 weeks old and I am intending to leave it until she is 6 months old - but how many weeks is that? And how do I know if/when she is truly ready?

Btw, at the moment she isn't sitting up unaided, still has that tongue-thrust reflex and isn't showing any signs of 'needing' solids. She is having roughly six or seven 8 oz bottles of formula per day, sleeps 12 hours at night, on the 50th centile, no health problems.

Thanks for any advice.

26 weeks.

Sitting up unaided.

Loss of tongue thrust.

Ability to chew, transfer food to the back of mouth and swallow.

Do you wean at 26 weeks regardless of their ability to sit and chew etc?? My son is 24 weeks and doesn't have any signs yet, so do I wean at 26 weeks or wait for other signs.

2 of my other children were weaned at 4 months and it was a struggle. My nearly 3 year old daughter was weaned at 22 weeks on the advice of the HV, also was a struggle. So I am trying to make life a little easier, well as easy as it can be with 4 children

Hope you don't mind the hijack MrsMattie

Guidelines are 'around 26 weeks'. My dd wasn't ready then and was nearer 7 months old. There's no rush, no window of opportunity.

At around 7 months, dd picked up some carrot from my plate and ate it. Then some broccoli. Then some cauliflower. She never looked back.

I am going to leave it until I know he is ready.

Don't mind the hijack at all! . Always good to know that it's not just me who finds it all a bit confusing, even after doing it previously!
