My lo has just turned 1 and I'm told to stop the bottle and the formula and give her cows milk from a cup....great....she spits it out and gives me a filthy look followed by screaming until she gets her formula in a bottle!!! Any suggestions? Please help!!!

what happens when you give her cows milk in her bottle?

Habbibu · 13/04/2009 22:23

Try starting (say) 80% formula, 20% cows milk, and just gradually changing the proportions until it's all cow's milk. And maybe work on the cup just once a day, at a time when it's easy to distract her, so she can be drinking from the cup during a story or a puzzle or something?

Exactly the same thing! I've tried it slightly warmed up, cold, I've tried it in different cups and bottles at different times. She's not having any of it!! Health visitor said it would be 'easy' - ha!!

ahem. formula is cows milk

change bottle for cup. warm non-powdered milk. mix it all up together. (to 70deg for formula of course)

Thank you too Greenelephant and BabyOcho. This parenting thing isn't easy at times ;)

Or, - gradually dilute the formula in the bottle with water, but give her lovely rich formula in her cup.

Once weaned from the bottle dilute the formula with cowsmilk (although I personally wouldn't worry about her continuing to have formula, - it is only the expense that is the problem, not a nutritional thing)

Oooo also a great idea thank you!!

i really could not be arsed taking the bottles away from dd1, for aaaaaages. she loved them. i did what hab suggested and everything was fine. but get rid of the bottle... why bother? it's only old biddies who care about that.

kdlicious1 · 13/04/2009 22:31

Haha, thanks for the reassuring chuckle - it's easy to panic about all the stuff you should or shouldn't be doing!!

dd drank water out of the sippy cups, and was quite quick to get the hang of straws etc, but i think she was definitely on milk out of a bottle until eighteen months or so. it was a great comfort to her, i thought it was mean to remove it.

kdlicious1 · 13/04/2009 22:45

Hmmm I'm beginning to think I've been made to panic over nothing. Thank you everyone for all your suggestions. This is the first time I've posted on mumsnet and I'm really I did!!

LOL Good first post, - now try the AIBU and post something contraversial. You need to be baptised properly.

May I suggest Parent and Toddler parking.......
