If your baby was a month early when did you wean?

And did you wait until 6 months adjusted age (ie 7 months) before giving anything other than fruit and veg?
And did you have any success with BLW?

both my friends who had pre term twins weaned at non adjusted age (one at 5 months and one at 6)... both non BLW (but think twins are another story).

DD was 7 weeks early and I was told to wean at her actual age of 6 months rather than adjusted (4.5 months)

I remember being very perplexed by this at the time as it all seemed too early to me. but it all turned out fine.

Didn't do BLW. But finger foods were no problem at all from about 7-8 months.

per my mates the rationale was you go on how long they've been drinking milk rather than adjusted age...

MintChocAddict · 01/04/2009 22:19

Weaned at 6.5 months (5 months adjusted)
Didn't try BLW as I didn't know it existed!

DS was born at 35 weeks - he had nothing but milk until 6 months chronological age.

We did BLW, and it was great

Hi my experience echos others, my DD born at 36 weeks and we weaned at 6 months actual age. HV were very clear not to wait an extra 4 weeks. All fine so far, but not doing BLW

Concordia · 04/04/2009 20:52

Thanks. I just wondered if it were ok to give all the 'six months onwards' foods like gluten, dairy, meat etc straight away or whether to wait until 7 months.
I was hoping to BLW but her weight is really low and she only put on one ounce in three weeks so i think i need to give some purees initially alongide finger foods. But i might try to shift to more BLW if her weight improves.

My HV also told me to start weaning 6months from birth date, not due date...

Her explanation was that the stomach starts maturing as soon as they are born (ties in with what poppy says above about milk drinking) & I should only think about her "adjusted" age for developmental things... which I guess will make BLW a bit tricky as DD was 6 weeks early & I'm not sure how good she's going to be at grabbing mushy carrot sticks! Should be fun trying tho'

My DD1 was born at 32 weeks and we began weaning her at 17 weeks from birth date - following HV guidelines. I pureed everything to begin with and she was fine.

When she reached 26 weeks - from birth date - we included all the usual things that you can from 6 months. She has always been a good eater - although was never keen on 'lumps and mush' so we accidentally fell into basically BLW from about the time she was 8 or 9 months.

My DD2 was born at 35 weeks and is now 15 weeks. This time I intend to BLW if possible - and HV agrees with this approach for this baby. Not fussed how much she actually eats in the first few months - I am a relaxed mum when it comes to food and mess!

Tried purees and finger foods at 6 months actual age, but DD was not interested at all.

She didn't really eat anything until about 8 months actual / 7 months adjusted
