Do you have to go to weaning talks run by HVs?

I recieved an invitation to one a few weeks ago that was held this morning.

I didn't go.

Partly because Im ill, shattered and not in the mood.

Partly because this is my 3rd baby and I don't feel I need to.

Will I get in trouble?

yes. they will descend on you to make sure you have enough puréed broccoli in your freezer.

tassisssss · 01/04/2009 19:24

course not, don't go!

with my 3rd i've barely seen my HV.

PlumBumMum · 01/04/2009 19:24

At least you got an invitation, I haven't seen dd's HV since ds preschool check last year, so don't know when I last seen her for dd whos 2.6 (dc3)

Yes. A multi-disciplinary team will arrive at your house bearing a big box to think outside of. They will take a strategic view of your parenting, paying particular attention to NICE guidelines, patient pathways and the Glasgow weaning scale.

Then you'll have to sign a home/HV agreement swearing to pay close attention to every pearl that drops from said HV's lips from now on on pain of having to hand over your first born son.

no, why would you get into trouble? it's a service for those who want information, not an obligatory meeting!

i haven't seen a hv since ds2 was about 6 weeks old

Disenchanted3 · 01/04/2009 19:28

We go to the surestart centre and bump into them alot.

My health visitor for DS2 was lovely, just left us alone but was fab if we needed her.

This ones a busybody PITA.

I went with ds1 cos I did all that sort of stuff with ds1.

But then I'd heard in advance we'd be getting free toddler cutlery, plate bowl cup, and books etc for the babies.

Did I bother with ds2? Did I hellers like!

Went to one as part of a series of "talking babies" meetings over 6 weeks (this is when ds was very young so well ahead of actual weaning age).

It was quite good for a laugh but not an awful lot of help. Another mum asked about letting them have finger food straight away at 6 months (god forbid). The HV, looking most concerned, said that the baby MUST be established on purees first and that baby rice was a great place to start.

Pah says I
