DS has just turned 1 and for the last month or so, he won't really eat his main meals. He had cheese and ham sandwich cut up into small rectangles which he usually pulls to bits and eats after much inspection. He has started to chew on the first piece and then throw every other thing I give him onto the floor without even trying it. He will eat yoghurt and mashed pear/banana/cooked apple without much of a problem.

He also has only been taking about 3oz of milk in the morning and will only take his night time bottle when he is sooooo tired he just gives in and drinks it.

He is getting his canine teeth which has caused a few sleepless nights and a great upset to him so I don't know if this is solely to blame.

He is 25lbs and about 84cm tall so he isn't underweight but I am still concerned that he is refusing lots...

My boy has just turned 1 and is having a similar issue. He refuses breakfast most days and is just 'picking' his other meals most of the time. He throws a lot on the floor, like you said. He usually eats enough though at either lunch or dinner to keep me from worrying, but he is definitely pickier than usual right now.

It could be the teething? Or perhaps that their appetite does slow down since their growth has reached a plateau?

Also our DS refuses to eat from a spoon completely. Which is frustrating! We have to prepare everything as finger foods and of course it's very messy!

My DD is 14 months and sometimes astonishes me that she can survive on so little food! Her appetite has definitly slowed since she turned 1 and generally changes from day to day. Illness and teething pains always brings things to an abrupt halt! She does also go off things that she's previously loved really quickly. I like to keep trying new things with her, most is rejected of course!

As long as it's not hunger waking him in the night I'd say just keep going with what you're already doing and try not to worry.

DD also rarly eats from a spoon and with only 2 teeth it's certainly a challenge coming up with nutricious finger foods she can actually chew!

Thanks very much for your replies. Feel a little bit better that its not just me. He's got his next jags soon so I will have to remember to ask HV (who will prob say the usual "he wont starve himself" thing anyway)

Thank you
