I need advice or ressurance or to know Im not alone!!!
DD is just over 6m and has been weaning for 3ish weeks. Went reasonably well to start with but she is getting fussier and fussier. And she is having le and milk.
Today she had 6oz bottle at 5am then more sleep. SHe had a good amount of banana baby cereal at 8.30 and another 3 oz formula at 9. But she has since then refused everything, veg purees, jars, 2 attempts at bottles. She did has a small yoghurt at 3.30 but thats it.
She normally does have slightly more than this but is always terrible with anything savoury. I have tried every veg, combining with fruit, milk, rice etc to no avail. I am trying to stay relaxed but i am really concerned that she is already hugely preferring sweet things (loves fruit puree but I try and limit this so she doesnt expect it)
Please help!!!!!
her weight is fine at the mo but not sure for how long at this rate!!!

It's still very early days and she doesn't need food for nutrition/energy yet - so try to chill out as much as possible. how is she with finger food?

choufleur · 31/03/2009 19:40

she's still learning. i'd try not to worry.

agree totally with all the PP - but also, i don't know if this is any use, but I noticed that Ella's Kitchen purees mix fruit and vegetables in their First Stage - for instance Apple, Sweet Potato, Pumpkin and Blueberry - so perhaps it's worth a try?

btw, from what I can gather, it's totally normal for babies to favour fruit over veg!!! I think advice from the 'books' suggests trying sweet vegs to tempt your baby..!!

thanks,
I guess I am expecting too much of her. I know it is very early days but its the fact that things seem to be going backwards that concerns me. no problems with breakfast as I say but the rest is very hit and miss. or miss and miss it seems.
I have tried some fab recipes (at least I think they taste nice) mixing sweet and savoury but to no avail.
She does like to try with finger food but doesnt actually swallow anything, just chews then spits it out.
I think i will forget about 3 meals a day for now and work towards 2.
today just got me worried as she has had so little fodd/milk today.
lets see what tomorrow brings.
must go to bed as Im shattered but I cant stop reading other peoples problems (maybe it hel[s put ours in perspective...)

good luck, hoping you had a good night's sleep

titferbrains · 04/04/2009 16:51

how are you getting on nic? My dd is similar, just not really that interested - waiting for her to reach that stage where she's grabbing everything and putting it in her mouth. at the moment she's more interested in blowing bubbles and playing with her feet. Sigh.

Someone told me once (or did I read it? Can't remember.) to assess food intake over a period of 3 days, not every day - as it tends to vary hugely from one day to the next.

DS is 6 months tomorrow, we have been weaning for 3 weeks BLW. I think he is one of those babies who wanted to start early anyway, but he has been having one meal a day, sometimes 2, sometimes none. I am not awake enough in the mornings to deal with unnecessary mess, so breakfast will be waiting until he shows signs of wanting it, tbh.
