BPA-free weaning equipment

Hi,

There's been lots of stuff in the news lately about BPA-free bottles, but what about BPA-free weaning equipment? (food portioners/containers, spoons, bowls etc)

I must admit I'm not really sure how much I should worry about this, but I figure that if I'm going to lovingly prepare some pureed carrot for my LO, then I'd like to store/re-heat/serve it in something that doesn't contain any potentially harmful chemicals...

Does anyone know anywhere that would stock anything suitable in the UK?

TIA

Avent VIA, i.e the ones you use to store expressed milk, are BPA-free. They stain quite a bit thou, so keep a few ones for mild flavours.

The NCT shop may also sell some BPA-free products. Medela also prides itself to manufacture BPA-free products, but i don't know if they have any weaning line.

In general, the containers made with polypropylene (PP) are BPA free. That includes most of the leak proof food containers that you may already have in your household. Clear, transparent containers are more likely to have BPA (although, not all of them).

www.babypotz.com sell BPA free weaning containers with lids in all different sizes !

Hiya - plastic code 7, pc or O all denote plastics which may contain BPA. The code is usually in or next to the recycling triangle and usually underneah.

Most plastic pots with lids will be a 1 or a 5 and therefore do not contain BPA.

So have a look underneath!

If you want more info search on widpekia for BPA. ( its in the lining of tin cans too...)

Hi there, I don't use plastic containers when reheating my babies food in the microwave. I use glass / pyrex to avoid any nasties from the plastic getting into babies food.

This page was good for finding BPA free weaning equipment on amazon. I think the key is to try and avoid plastic as much as possible - BPA Free Baby Weaning Equipment in the UK

Hello,

I've found a great BPA-free website that a friend recommended when she was weaning her daughter (and apparently some celebrity mums are now shopping there too!!) - have a look at:

www.vupbaby.co.uk

They only sell BPA free products so you know they are safe - and they have lots of useful weaning things like storage pots, cutlery, bowls etc. which are all really nice and I've bought some for my daughter (she particularly loves the tiny snack pots they sell, very useful for popping in my handbag when we are out!)

Hope this helps :)

The best BPA-free baby feeding products I've tried are the ones from Vital Baby www.vitalbaby.com/, they are available at boots or mother care. I've had very good experience using Vital Baby products. I've recently got the "unbelievabowl" www.vitalbaby.co.uk/types/bowls/unbelievabowl-set.html it's fantastic and I have lots of fun seeing my baby trying to throw it off the highchair!!!
