When can baby have milk?

Hiya

When can baby have cows milk?

She has been breastfed up until now (7 months) but has got her 4 upper teeth and 2 lower teeth and REALLY bites during feeds.

She only has milk in the evening before bed, and I don't want her to go onto formula as she doesn't like it.

Any ideas?

Ta

I think it's when they are 1

It is only suitable as the main drink from 1 year but can be used in cereal, foods, etc from 6 months. One feed a day at 7 months isnt much - it is supposed to be the main source of nutrition up to 1 year with a minimum of 20oz recommended.

THank you sooo much...our health visitor isn't really available for us to ask questions iykwim.

So I can give her some in a cup (she is used to a cup already) in the evening.

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!

Have you tried different formulas? I presume they don't taste the same. Or expressed breast milk perhaps?

I don't think it will do much harm to give cow's milk - as Seona said, it's only one feed - but breast or formula milk has so many more vitamins and nutrients than plain cow's milk and the before-bed feed is usually a big one.

There are lots of threads on the breast/bottlefeeding board about biting btw

Oh wait, I misread your post and Seona's - is she really only having one milk feed a day? If she is, I would be very wary of replacing it with cow's milk.

Why isn't your HV around?
