What do you use to wipe food off face afterwards?

Baby wipes are obvious answer, but I'm nervous about the chemicals in them and using them on the mouth. Would prefer to use something simpler and greener? Kitchen towel?

Flannel. I blew my nose on a baby wipe once and it stung Plain version aswell...

claireybee · 18/03/2009 18:13

Flannels here too

ChocOrange05 · 18/03/2009 18:55

I will use a wet muslin and then chuck it in the wash - same as I do with sick!

chequersmate · 18/03/2009 18:57

I use wet kitchen roll but flannel is much greener, might try that.

Often use baby wipes on the hands though.

compo · 18/03/2009 18:57

kitchen roll

Lawks · 18/03/2009 19:00

Endless cheap white flannels. At least one per meal time. All go in a hot wash together with washable kitchen cloths and tea towels. I have no idea how people manage without endless flannels and endless muslin cloths for the other end.

Baby wipes are the work of the devil.

nappyzonecannotcycleuphill · 18/03/2009 19:00

yup i have a stash of flannels too in the teatowel drawer - also bibs as well wetted as toddler wont wear them anymore being stroppy and all that !

thisisyesterday · 18/03/2009 19:06

i just use a muslin. damp if it needs a little bit extra

BikeRunSki · 18/03/2009 21:24

I keep a face sponge in a little bowl of water by me when I am feeding him. Wipe his face as he is eating, then wash it in hot water ready for next meal. Goes through washing machine very few days.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 18/03/2009 21:35

Flannels here for at the end of the meal too.

BikeRunSki - I feel a little sorry for your son having his face wiped throughout his mealtime. What's wrong with waiting until the end?

I have tonnes of old clean flannels. They go in the wash at the end of the day.

wastingmyeducation · 19/03/2009 08:49

Wilkinsons 5 for 99p flannels.

belgo · 19/03/2009 08:52

agree, a wet flannel. They go into the wash every day.

sorry have to at 'aha, flannel. that's a good idea' to clean a face!

MrsJamin · 19/03/2009 09:00

am bemused at this thread by the OP who didn't think of flannels, and the bikerunski who wipes her son's face as she is feeding him.
I use washable wipes by weenotions, one side bamboo and one side rainbow fleece, they're pretty sufficient but if you want to clean table, highchair, floor, walls, ceiling etc you might be better off with a full face flannel. Ikea do v cheap multipacks too.

chequersmate · 19/03/2009 11:53

Nice first line MrsJamin

orangina · 19/03/2009 11:59

Wet muslin, can then wipe down the table/highchair after, and gets chucked in the wash. I have loads of muslins from when the dc were babes, they hang in a bag on the back of the kitchen door...

Tillyscoutsmum · 19/03/2009 12:04

muslins here as well - I had masses of them from when dd was a baby

shortcircuit · 19/03/2009 12:10

Asda flannels - my mum bought me a pack when I mentioned needing some. They are quite think - the value ones - so great for wiping faces & they don't hang around staying wet. Big thick ones are pointless imo.

I loathe wipes, they feel horrible on the skin + agree about the chemicals.

mrsgboring · 19/03/2009 12:12

Wet kitchen roll here too (I know I should have reusable something but somehow am never organised ). But a lot of the time I don't actually bother too much. DS has always been a relatively tidy eater, so would only wipe if he was sticky or likely to get sore. Porridge is a face mask after all.

morningpaper · 19/03/2009 12:14

blimey you are organised

I use (1) my skirt (2) a passing tea towel (3) washing up sponge or (4) I lick it off myself
