Problems weaning, what should I do?

Hi

My DD is 6 and 1/2 months old and have been trying to start weaning her for the past 2 weeks but she just doesn't want to know, she screws her face up in disgust, spits the foods out, then after a couple of tries she then starts screaming. What do I do? Should I keep trying each day until she gets it or should I leave it a few days or a few weeks and try again? Thanks

Speak to your HV?

My DS is 27 weeks and started weaning last week. No probs so far, but I think I would just leave it for a few days then try again. If she is not going to eat, then you can't really make her.

my dd was like that with spoon food, so we went down the blw route and she loves food

I wouldn't stress it, just give it a break and introduce casually later on. There's no rule that says they're all ready by 6 months.

Sympathies - my DS was like this too and it feels like forever when you are in the middle of it, but at about 7.5 or 8mo it clicked and has been good ever since.
FWIW he never liked the bland baby rice type things which I offered to start with and became a lot more enthusiastic when I gave him other types of food. I used the Annabelle K recipes but didn't puree.

I also asked a friend if I could come along when she gave her DC of the same age his lunch - she made it really fun with lots of songs, interaction, things for him look at. I realised I'd been so worried about getting him to eat something, that I'd neglected that side of it. DS was probably bored stiff! It helped when I changed that too.

She sounds just like my DD, shes nearly 7 months now. We just kept offering her different foods twice a day and if she didnt eat it, we didnt force it. In the last few days shes actualy started to eat some of the foods i have made for her, so id say just keep offering it to your DD but stay relaxed and dont worry about it too much, she'll get there in th end!
