"Calorie-dense foods" ideas

My DD, aged 7 months, is now between 2nd and 9th centile, having started on the 50th. They don't seem to think anything is medically wrong with her - she is content and well and looks in good proportion - but HV has suggested i am just not giving her enough calories. She has baby cereal and toast for breakfast and veggie purees with chicken or fish for lunch and supper, as well as fruit purees and full-cream baby yogs sometimes, as well as a range of finger foods (rice cakes and Organix carrot crisp things). She does not eat huge quantities always, but i can hardly force-feed her. She also has 4 or 5 BF a day and 2 or 3 BF a night. HV's suggestions for "calorie-dense foods" were cheese and custard. I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas ?

Avocado, banana, put butter on the toast, more bfs?

Prob your baby is absolutely fine - but you knew that

Avocado - my number 1 all round top weaning food. Mushed up, in chunks, on toast, both mine have loved it. And it's portable.

Go with your instinct on your Dd's health and don't be afraid to ignore HV if that's what your instinct says.

Oh, and peanut butter if not avoiding for any reason. Unsalted butter?

I was going to say cheese and custard, and then I read your entire post

white sauces made with full-fat milk

my dc used to love mashed banana and avocado together

eggy-bread cut into fingers as finger-food?

AitchTwoOh · 04/03/2009 20:20

there are other nut butters, like cashew etc, available from holland and barrett if you're still avoiding peanuts.

(dd was born on the 50th, went to the 9th, the 2nd and then dipped below altogether. we're under a paed anyway cos she's prem, he's not worried about it).

We did hard-boiled egg spread on toast, cheese on toast, macaroni cheese, greek yoghurt and fruit (and cheese strings but am trying not to lead you astray...)

we used cream cheese quite a lot - added into purees or tomato-based sauces to make a sauce for pasta, spread on rice cakes or toast, sometimes with a bit of lo-sugar jam on top again...trying not to lead you astray
