BLW types - oatcakes?

Am going to try BLW with my DS soon - he is my PFB and as I won't be puree-ing, I thought it would be nice to make something just for him that isn't just peeling a banana.

Can I make oatcakes (porridge oats, lard, bicarb, tap water, no salt)? I know this is probably a stupid question but are all those things ok for him to have at 26 weeks?

Obviously if you say yes, I can then start worrying about him choking on them.

that sounds fab for a later BLW food, but you might want to try more melt-in-the-mouth type foods in the first few weeks, like roasted veg sticks, steamed veg, over-cooked porridge (pancakes), rice cakes, toast, soft fruits etc. I can imagine oatcakes being crumbly and not that soft in the mouth?

Thank you that's really helpful - you are right - they might crumble into shards that could hurt his ickle mouf LOL!

I like the idea of overcooked porridge made into pancakes!

with the porridge just make it up in a flat-bottomed bowl, with a ratio of one tablespoon of oats to 20ml full fat milk (i do 6 tbsps to 120ml as DS gets hungry at breakfast!). Then buzz in microwave until the top is dry to touch, and allow to cool in the sink with a bit of cold water in the bottom. then scoop out with a spatula into blobs that your DS can just pick up in his hand and stuff into his mouth. I add grated apple or chopped blueberries before buzzing if I am feeling like a nice mummy!

that sounds awesome! can't wait.

have just discovered porridge pancakes!
amazing. ds loves them, and they save so much arsing about cleaning up.

I found with porridge that I could make normal porridge for dd and then dollop a few blobs onto a plate for ds - as the cooled they would congeal and he could pick them up nae bother.
