Seasonal foods for babies

We give DS (14 months) the same foods as my DP and I eat, so that means food in season, ie winter = a good variety of foods but steering away from salad veg or soft fruits such as strawberries. He's a good eater at the moment but..

Will he end up a fussy toddler if I don't expose him to summer foods now, or am I fretting too much? I guess what I am asking is whether there is a window where children are open to trying new foods that I need to take advantage of that suddenly closes?

Friends with similar aged kids are giving them cucumber sticks, cherry tomatoes, strawberries. It just didn't occur to me to buy them until now, so now I am wondering if I should do the same. It's no big deal, I have no problem with altering my shopping habits if the experts on mn think it will do him good

Thanks in advance.

If he's fairly regularly getting introduced to new things as they come into season, then I see no problem with it - it's a good habit to get into. dd is 2.4, and takes to new foods perfectly happily so I haven't come across any "window of opportunity". I didn't have olives until I was a teenager, and love them now. Ditto artichokes, and many other things!

Thanks Habbibu, what you are saying does make sense, and its reassuring. I should probably stop worrying and just keeping doing as we always have.

The most important thing is that he is eating whatever you are eating - this is a fab habit as it makes introducing new foods really easy. DS (2.9) has always done it, and regards anything on our plates as fair game. No problems eating squid, baby octopus, sushi, curry etc etc here

some good advice above - as long as your DS is used to being introduced to new foods, and you show him how yummy they are by eating them too, you should be fine. I think the trouble is when babies get stuck in a food rut and have the same week in week out and just aren't used to trying new things. Also I try to make sure the new thing isn't the whole meal, otherwise it can be a bit overwhelming for DS when there's nothing familiar in front of him.

Thanks for this as I've been wondering a bit about this too as my friend said to introduce everything I'm keen for DS to eat by 8 months which is just not possible when we try to eat seasonally!
