I am a mean mummy and proud!

DS is a week shy of 5 months and just starting to show an interest in us eating. Every time he watches anyone eat they always comment that he would like a bit and made me feel mean for refusing to let them share.

So I just started to agree with them! I did feel a bit mean today when DS watched me very dolefully and then started to cry though!

Any other mean mummies "depriving" their LOs?

People say daft things. I was apparently Meany McMeanpants for not giving DS chocolate at Christmas, when he was barely six months. Stick to your guns, and you can always trot out the old "He watches me drive the car with interest too, but I'm not going to let him behind the wheel just yet" line ;)

I bet he watches the lovely shiny knives carefully too and would like to play with them !

Stick to your guns, give him something to play with. Waiting til 6 months definately has more benefits than giving in sooner. My dd eats everything and anything, not fussy in the slightest. I started to soon with DS and I cried everytime he refused to eat some of my beautifully, lovelingly prepared purees, and whooped whenever he rolled a spoonful around his mouth. The longer you leave it the less stressful it is believe me!

I'm on the verge of weaning my PFB, he will be 6 months this weekend.
At christmas, a friend of mine offered him some cream from a cake off her finger. Thankfully I was close by and stopped her before she got to his mouth. She thought it was cute but I wasn't impressed.
Most of my mum's friends ask me if he's eating rusks or rice yet and when I saw no they look shocked.
I try not to take notice of any "advice" I'm given, people do mean well, they just do things differently.

I'm with you CherryChoc. DS is 24wks 5days and I am determined to hang on for another week and a half! He watches us do EVERYTHING with interest. He will be 6 months next Sunday, and we'll start then. He is not uncontrolably hungry and there is a history of coeliac disease in DH's family. The hard bit will be staving off my mum. We are going to visit for a few days next week and she's got the baby rice in! She weaned me at 3 months and I was 2 months early. No wonder I am dairy intolerant!
