DS is nearly 18 months and was always a fabulous eater... ate anything and everything that you gave him, Loved all fruit & veg, he was really a dream to feed. But the last few months he has been a nightmare - won't sit in his highchair for more than a few minutes at a time, spits food out, just isn't interested in food at all. All he wants is fruit & cheese and he refuses almost anything else. He will eat if you shove bits in his mouth whilst he's wandering around, distracted with other things, but that's no way to encourage good eating. I've never been one for the 'just leave it and try again later' school of thought - for one thing there's often a food hygiene issue with that (and I'm damned if I'm making a fresh meal to try him with every hour!) and for another, I don't have time to keep trying him with food. With his big sister at school and daytime naps to be had, there simply isn't time to keep trying him with meals. Ok, you can give them healthy snacks throughout the day and I do this sometimes, but the refusal of all evening meals drives me batty. So what would you do in this situ - do you think sitting at the table is important at this age? Would you do what works easiest and feed him on the go, or would you work at getting him to eat 'properly'? I don't think I'm comfortable with the idea of tricking him into eating but that's all that seems to work and that's what stops my head exploding!
