Can you give banana in the first week of BLW?

Yes - just cut the skin so that only an inch or so of banana shows, as otherwise it's too slippery to hold

lindenlass · 12/02/2009 10:15

yup, but mine all found banana v easy to gag on so be prepared. there's nothing you can't give except for runny egg, honey and whole nuts.

bangandthedirtisgone · 12/02/2009 10:16

Thanks, that's what I thought.

My friend claims I shouldn't have done this.

Where can I point her in the direction of the info that says it's ok? Is in Gill Rapley's book?

it will be in gill rapleys' book, but have you also explored the baby led weaning sites - www.babybanana.biz and www.babyledweaning.com

giantkatestacks · 12/02/2009 10:19

I've found it can bung them up digestion-wise a bit as well so watch out for that too.

bangandthedirtisgone · 12/02/2009 10:41

thanks everyone.

and soak any bibs/messy clothes immediately as banana left to air dry is indelible

bangandthedirtisgone · 12/02/2009 10:48

Ooh, good tip, thanks littleducks.

Why not ask your friend for the evidence that this shouldn't be done?

MrsSchmaltzyMerryHenry · 12/02/2009 15:13

Yes. But balance it with non-sweet foods so that DC doesn't get a sweet tooth.

smellen · 12/02/2009 15:15

Also told that banana sticks are better than disc-shaped sections as your child gets older, as the latter present a choking hazard. Sorry if pointing out the obvious.
