Best of the worst - if you have to give convenience food

So dd is blossoming on home mostly cooked organic food that is often what we eat (I'll just polish my halo!!!)

But what do you do when you can't be arsed/are having a takeaway/she's going to my mums etc etc. Are there any fishfingers which are okay (low salt), are beans ever okay? I don't like jars as they seem artificial in texture, dd doesn't like eggs and there is only so often you can give something on toast.

Is there anything that lurks in the freezer/in a tin that is okay once in a while?

She is almost 10 momths by the way

Beans - you can get low sugar/salt beans, but they are disgusting (well, DS and I think they are, yours might like them ). I make my own in huge batches then freeze them in individual portions. You can get a lot of veg in that way as well.

Other things to freeze - mashed potato made into cakes with tinned salmon, peas, sweetcorn, cubes of cheese, whatever you have to hand. Just defrost and fry.

Pasta with pesto is good -it will be a bit salty so make sure that her other meals that day are lower in salt.

If all else fails a bowl of cereal (raisin wheats are a favourite here) with some fruit, and then maybe some cubes of cheese for protein -she won't know that cereal's meant to be a breakfast food!

I don't know much about which ready prepared stuff is nicest -not from any deep moral convictions, just that I find it cheaper to cook from scratch, and I can't be bothered to taste dozens of brands to find the one good one!

I confess to having some of those Cow & Gate sauce pouches in the cupboard... I just cook some pasta and mix up and let ds(13mo) loose with it, they at least have controlled salt levels. DS has tried and liked the tomato & 6 veggie one and the tomato & mascapone one, but we've never tried the others.
Tesco have them on a 2 for £1 offer atm.

My DS also likes jacket spud with cheese as well, or spaghetti in tomato sauce.

I also keep some of those Hipp Organic meals in the cupboard as a standby as well. And because I absolutely detest fish, I sometimes get Asda Good Stuff tuna pasta bake in ther freezer for ds.

Something else I do, which I do for myself is veggie rice, I cook some rice, add some herbs and spices, then steam some veg (just whatever I have to hand - carrots, cauli & broccoli). I chop up the cooked veg mix it with the rice and then I add a few frozen peas to cool enough for ds to eat it.

I have to confess that I am a big fan of the Cook shop baby and childrens meals - they aren't pureed and they are delicious www.cookfood.net/menu/BabyFood.

They are all organic, freshly prepared, low salt etc etc so can still feel fairly virtuous!

my quik meals are covent garden soups with chunks of bread in it which soak up the soup.
eggy bread, ds loves this
Omlette with peas and onions. (he's not keen on boiled eggs or scrambled but will eat the above)
beans and mash

oh and ds has had some M&s quiche (was on offer not usually a family favourite) for lunch today he loved it made a bit of a mess but most of it was eaten. He also had organix crisps and grapes he's a big picker and will eat funny combos.
