Hi
My daughter was prem and had severe reflux, the hosptial advise weaning early, but didnt actually start accepting spoon until about 5.5 months, had wanted to do BLW but was wean or need stronger medication. Anyway she is now 8 months and after having cold, tummy bug and UTI one after the other she is now refusing anything i try and feed her (never that interested really anyway!) - so we are now letting her feed herself - now the question is i dont know how much is going in - she will put lots in her mouth and suck, try and chew (only 2 teeth!) but then spits it out - she appears shocked if she swallows something - the sucking is working for some things - like this morning her chunk of strawberry was sucked flat!

Due to this she is now taking more foruma again (she is lactose intolerant - as is Dh and his family) - HV said yesterday fine she is self feeding but to do at least 5 mini meals a day and reduce her milk so she is hungry?? the thing is if i give her food when she is hungry she sucks on things for about 5 mins and then gets very frustrated (as hungry?) and unless i give her some milk (after which she is ok and will try more food) she gets very very upset andwon't eat anymore!

Also she has never been a great sleeper but is now waking more often for milk over night - do the BLWs take longer generally to sleep through?

milkwise she has
early morning - 7oz
break fast + 5oz (then nap)
lunch + 5oz (nap)
Afternoon - 5oz
bedtime - 8oz
1am - 5oz (wont take more or accept dream feed, have tried!)
may wake again about 3 wanting more milk!

any ideas/opinions/comments greatly appreciated!

hi, i have no experience of feedings problems and reflux but my son has a medical condition where reflux and eating can be a problem. there is a website called by a charity called maxappeal (just google max appeal) and they have info sheets on about feeding problems and reflux (although aimed at children with di-george syndrom). You could email them and their members may have some advice from you because they may have been through similar things with their children.

I am not too worried about the reflux as it is pretty much under control - really just like to know what people did about amount of milk feeds?
thanks
