When can I stop boiling my DD's drinking water?

Is it a bacteria issue or something else?

Occasionally she will try and drink water from the bath, or suck on the sponge and has managed quite large mouthfuls sometimes before I have grabbed the sponge off her. Can this do her any harm and if not why am I still boiling all her drinking water first?

I stopped boiling drinking water at 6 months, ds is always drinking his bathwater, he's come to no harm yet. How old is your dd?

psychomum5 · 06/02/2009 11:26

I never boiled drinking water for mine, just the water for bottles.

how old is your DD?

Natter · 06/02/2009 11:27

6 months is the age when they can drink water from the tap without boiling

Seona1973 · 06/02/2009 14:06

6 months is fine for drinking water from the tap but it still needs boiling for formula

EyeballsintheSky · 06/02/2009 14:09

6 months here too. It's dead handy if you're ff as I could make bottles on demand with boiling water and shove some tap water in to cool them down. Made life so much easier

Thanks for all the replies.

My DD is 9 months old so it is a relief to know there is one thing I don't have to worry about any more. Not that she seems that bothered about drinking water....

Can I ask why they're having water before 6 months? Is this a ff thing? I know bf babies need nothing except bm for the first 6 months so I'm a bit confused!

fizzpops · 07/02/2009 10:33

In hot weather ff babies may need extra water as the formula does not adapt itself in the same way as bm. My DD did not have any additional water as I didn't feel it was necessary. I have been giving her water since she was weaned though and have obviously been a bit overzealous in boiling it first....

Thanks fizzpops - that makes sense! I don't think there's any harm in being overcautious at all but it's nice that it will be easier for you now!
